Six Year Blogiversary

Happy six-year Blogiversary to me! As of today, I’ve been writing this blog for exactly six years and so it’s time to check in on how it’s been going. And, well, it’s been very enjoyable!

First, I started a long distance bike trail this year – the Bodensee Radweg. Broken into 8 sections, this route completely circles the Bodensee (Lake Constance) passing through Switzerland, Germany, and Austria along the way.

And, of course I did some hiking. Three summer highlights are below.

Speaking of hiking, we made progress on the Alpine Panorama Trail (Route 3). So far, we have completed up to stage 20.

Hiking all of Route 3 will probably take a few more years, which means I will have plenty of new blog content for the coming years!

There are also a few non-hiking/biking posts I want to highlight. One new post in Learning German (a running collection of German and Swiss German movies that I have been watching), one under the Cooking category (a very delicious summer salad recipe) and three new posts in the Festival and Events category (swimming across lake Zürich, attending the International Concourse of Elegance Car Show, and Swimming, Running, and Biking the Zürich City Triathlon.)

I also went to two museums that I really enjoyed, one in Switzerland – the Foundation Beyeler Museum for the Yayoi Kusuma retrospective, and one in Germany – the Pfahlbauten Museum which has a reconstruction of the prehistoric pile dwellings on the Bodensee (Lake Constance).

On the technical side of the blog, I added tags so that hikes can be viewed by which cantons they pass through. Links to each canton can be found by selecting Hikes -> Hikes by Swiss Canton. There, you can also find my favorite hike for each canton. Another organizational change I made was to relabel the Hobbies/Projects menu to just Hobbies as that better reflects the category contents. Then, as I think it is a better fit, I moved the Repeat Roundups and the Blogiversary posts under the Blogging menu. I also needed a place to put my first snowshoeing post. Did it belong under hiking or in its own category? In the end I decided to put it both under the Hikes category and under the updated Sledding now Sledding and Snowshoeing category. I also added my first posts to the new Travel categories for Austria and Portugal. I think these small changes will make the site easier to navigate and to find things that you might want to do.

Am I still having fun! Yes, I am. Here are some favorite photos of me (and one of me and my husband) having a fabulous time!

So after a six years of blogging I would still say it has definitely been a great hobby for me. Now to cook more, hike more, bike more, learn more, do more and keep on blogging!
