Stage 5 of the Bodensee Radweg is 38 km long with 190 m ascent/descent. This stage is entirely in Switzerland and starts at Rorschach and ends in Kreuzlingen. Except for the end, where I was a little confused about which way to go to get to the train station, this was pleasant easy biking often through fields and orchards or along side the lake. April is a fantastic time to bike this stage as there are so many flowers and trees in bloom.

Note: I found this quote from Cycling Lake Constance to be 100 percent true: “In Germany, it is easy to miss a signpost in some places and go off the bike path. Due to the green-on-white optics, the readability is somewhat suboptimal.” |

Getting There
This stage starts where stage 4 ended, the Rorschach train station.

After getting off the train, I hopped on my bike and was on my way pedaling in the direction of Romanshorn/Kreuzlingen.
The Route
As soon as I was by the lake, I immediately stopped to take a picture of the flower gardens. So pretty! Rorschach is where national hiking trail Route 3 The Alpine Panorama Trail starts. As I am currently woking on a hike through I snapped a picture of where these paths cross. And then, a little further along, I stopped by the grand tour sign. It is supposed to frame an old wooden bath house but the bath house burned down in 2024 and the new one has not yet been built.

Continuing on, this bike path leaves the lake shore and follows alongside the train tracks through fields and orchards. This is very easy and pleasant biking and with so many flowers and trees in bloom, it is also very pretty!

As I approached Romanshorn, I came to the start of the first multi-stage bike trail that I did: National Route 5 – The Mittelland Route.

After passing the train station in Romanshorn, I followed the path out to the lake. Here, there was a park overlooking the marina and ferry port. I also stopped at a restaurant and had a salad with deep fried mushrooms that was very tasty. Then, back to biking along the lake shore!

After some time, the trail was once again following alongside the train tracks. Anytime I see oreo cookie cows, I have to take a picture! I also loved seeing the orchards in bloom.

As I approached Kreuzlingen, I passed a cute marina and a large field of dandelions.

The clouds look so fake in those pictures, but that is exactly what they looked like.
Getting Back
When I got to the Kreuzlingen, I followed the sign to the train station but that was to Bahnhof-Haven and not the main station. Instead of backtracking and continuing on the route, I tried to take a shortcut but I got lost. Anyway, I eventually got to the main station and happily didn’t have to wait too long for my train.

This stage was very enjoyable and I am looking forward to the next stages.
