Snowshoeing the Curnius Loop Trail (Route 546) – Falera / Laax

The Curnius Snowshoe Loop is 6 km long with 337 m of ascent and descent. This trail starts at the Curnius mountain station which can be reached by either a small gondola from Laax or a chairlift from Falera. After purchasing my first pair of snowshoes, I got together with a group of friends and gave this trail a try. Very enjoyable! This easy, pretty, trail was a great introduction to snowshoeing!

Getting There

This trail starts at the Curnius mountain station which can be reached by either a small gondola from Laax or a chairlift from Falera. We chose the chairlift from Falera as it is a bit less busy.

After hopping off the chairlift, we found the pink sign pointing us to our snowshoe trail and we were on our way.

The Trail

Once on the trail, we simply followed the pink poles to stay on the snowshoe path. You can get a good sense of the trail from the pictures below. I’m new to snowshoeing, and only recently purchased my own snowshoes. This was the first time I used them and I am pretty happy with my purchase. Snowshoeing really is a great way to get out, get some exercise, and enjoy the snow and sunshine.

And of course, the winter wonderland views are a joy!

Getting Back

We ended our snowshoe hike back at the Curnius mountain station where we stopped at the Tegia Curnius Restaurant for a Schümli Pflümli (fun to say and fun to drink.)

We could have taken the chair lift back down, but instead we returned to Falera following a winter hiking path and the road (about 2.5 km). Lots of lovely snowy views along the way.

I am really glad I purchased snowshoes. Snowshoeing really is a wonderful way to get out and enjoy the winter season and I hope to get a lot more use out of my snowshoes in the future. A special thank you to my friends for organizing the day and sharing the photos for this post.
