Repeat Roundup 2024
Many of the hiking, biking, and rafting trips we do are so much fun that I always say I want to do them again sometime. Last year I came up with the great idea of tracking which ones I actually go back to do in a yearly repeats roundup post and so I kept track all year and this is the roundup post for 2024! I wonder which ones I will repeat in 2025? Maybe the Englestock loop and I’ll finally get to try the goat ice cream?
Spring
Walking the Türlersee-Rundweg Trail
In March, we went back and walked the Türlersee-Rundweg Trail again. This short, easy trail around the Türlersee lake is always very enjoyable no matter the weather, but it is especially nice on warm spring days. (Original Post)
Summer
Hiking the Engelstock Loop Trail at Sattel Hochstuckli
In June, we went back and walked the Engelstock Loop Trail at Sattel Hochstuckli. We had previously done this as a winter hike and so it was really nice to see it in the summer. Sadly, the goat ice cream place was still closed, so we didn’t get to try it this time either. (Original Post – updated with some of the new summer pictures!)
Hiking the Zürichsee-Rundweg Trail – Stage 6
In July, we went back and hiked stage 6 of the Zürichsee-Rundweg trail. The first time we hiked it, we went from Schmerikon to Rapperswil. This time we went in the opposite direction, ending in Schmerikon. A lovely hike no matter which direction you choose! (Original Post)
Mountain Carting at Elm
In July, we went back to Elm and rode the mountain carts for an afternoon. Unlike previous trips we didn’t do a hike beforehand. Although we had cloudy weather, it was still wildly fun. Maybe even better as there were no crowds to contend with. (Original Post)
Hiking to the Kärpfbrugg
In August, a friend and I hiked up to the Legler Mountain Hut. To get to this hut, we hiked the same trail as the first half of the Kärpfbrugg Rundweg trail. The Kärpfbrugg, a 50 m wide natural stone bridge, is a really interesting rock formation and it was fun to see it again. And this time the water was low enough that I hiked under the bridge. Visiting the Abbey Library of St. Gall
In August, my older son wanted to do a lot of driving practice before his test so we decided to go to St. Gallen and visit the Abbey Library as a day trip. This time the main library exhibit was about the oldest manuscripts that had information about food and food laws. So interesting! The St. Gallen old town is adorable and even though I said I would take pictures and add them to the post next time I go, I didn’t remember to do that. Next time for sure! (Original Post)
I went again in September and again forgot to take pictures of the town!
Fall
Hiking a portion of the Mark Twain Trail – Rigi Kulm to Rigi Kaltbad
In September, I had friends visiting and I took them to Rigi where we took the train up to Rigi Kulm and then hiked down the last section to the Mark Twain trail down to Rigi Kaltbad. (Original Post)
The weather changes so fast in the mountains. The first picture below was taken just as we got off the train at Rigi Kulm and the second just five minutes later as we walked up to the top! And it was clear again when we reached the Rotstock viewpoint.
Hiking the Trans Swiss Trail – Stage 31 Lugano to Marcote
In September, we took friends to Lugano and hiked stage 31 of the Trans Swiss Trail. This time we took the funicular up from Paradiso to the top of Monte San Salvatore skipping the steep climb. (Original Post)
Hiking the Chubodensee Rundweg at Elm + Mountain Carts
In September, we took friends to Elm where we hiked the Chubodensee Roundweg. We also added on the spur up to the Wildmadfurggeli lookout point and of course, we rode the mountain carts at the end of the hike. (Original Post, Wildmadfurggeli Detour)
Hiking the Height Route at Flumserberg
In September, we took friends to Flumserberg, and went back and walked the Height Route Trail, adding on the additional peaks to do the four peak trail variation. I didn’t take enough pictures to update the original post or to make a new post so I will need to do this hike again sometime. (Original Post)
Visiting the Jesuit Church and Kapellbrücke in Luzern
In September, we took friends to Luzern. Although we didn’t go to the Rosengart Museum, we did visit the Jesuit Church and Kapellbrücke. The weather wasn’t perfect but we did get to see a rainbow over the bridge! (Original Post)
