We rented bikes and rode along the Elbe river from Kurort Rathen to Bad Schandau, crossed the bridge and then returned to Kurort Rathen via Lilienstein. This route was approximately 26 km with 900 m of ascent and descent.

While in the Mosel Valley in Germany, we biked a loop along the Mosel Cycle Path from Cochem to Senheim and back.

While in the Mosel Valley in Germany, we stayed in the town of Cochem, and did a loop hike from there up to the ruins of Winneburg castle.

The Legacy Trail is a paved bike trail that goes from Sarasota to Venice, Florida, USA. We joined the trail at the Bahia Vista access point and rode to the Venice Train Depot end point and back (about 54 km.)

On our trip to Sardinia, we spent an afternoon near the town of Arzachena visiting three archeological sites from the Nuraghic civilization, the civilization/culture that existed on Sardinia from roughly the 18th century BC to 238 BC when Sardinia was colonized by the Romans.

On a recent trip to Sardinia, Italy, we spent a very lovely afternoon hiking in Capo Figari Nature Park by Golfo Aranci. We did a loop comprised of the Carbonai, Mount Ruju, and Su Canale trails, and the road Via Cala Moresca.

The Nordspitze Panoramweg trail (14 km, 520 ascent/descent) is a loop trail starting in Bargen that takes you past the most northern point in Switzerland. Much of the trail is along the Swiss/German border and the trail crosses over into Germany at several points.

We wrapped up our time in Massachusetts on our USA trip with a hike on two trails, the Charcoal Trail (3.2 km, ascent/descent 160 m) and the Burbank Trail (5.5 km, ascent/descent 210 m, in the Yukon Ridge reserve near Lenox.

The Shaker Loop trail is 10.5 km long with 355 m ascent and descent. This loop took us through the Pittsfield State Forest reserve and past some historical points of interest for the Shaker religious order.

While taking a trip back to the US to visit family and friends, we went out for a short loop hike at Mount Tom State Reservation in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The trail we did was the Goat Peak View loop trail, a lovely forest hike up to an observation tower with 360 degree views.

While in Sorrento, Italy, we hiked the “Sentiero Degli Dei” or the “Path of the Gods” – a 6 kilometer trail along the Amalfi coast starting in Agerola and ending in Nocelle. From Nocelle, we walked an additional 3 kilometers to end our hike in the gorgeous seaside town of Positano.

While in Naples, Italy, we visited Pompeii and Herculaneum (two ancient cities buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79) and hiked the Cone Loop at Mount Vesuvius.
