Visiting Castle Dentice di Frasso in Carovigno, Italy

During a short trip to the Puglia region of Italy to visit a friend while she was putting on an art show (britefurart.com), she and I did the short self-guided tour of Castle Dentice di Frasso in Carovigno, Italy. This 16th century castle located in the historic center of Carovigno has an unusual triangular shape and three fortification towers. Once the home of noble families, today it belongs to the province of Brindisi and is used for cultural events. We enjoyed our tour and consider it a worthwhile stop if you are in Carovigno.

Touring Castle Dentice di Frasso in Carovigno

We were staying nearby so simply walked to the castle. There is street parking in the area if you are driving. After arriving at the castle, we paid our entrance fee and gave the cashier my email address so that we could download the audio tour on my phone.

The tour started in the courtyard and we then we followed the signs though the castle gate and up the stairs to the inside rooms.

I loved the floor tile details. And the sets of armor on display were also rather interesting. One looked to be made of dried beans.

Included in the tour were two outside balcony spaces. One with a lovely view of the outer castle walls and the town of Ostuni in the distance.

For the tour, we simply wander from room to room listening to the audio descriptions on my phone. When we had completed the tour, we followed the green exit signs back out. This was a really lovely castle and a nice way to spend an hour or so when in Carovigno.

The Castle at Night

As we were staying in the area, we also walked up the castle area at night to see the light display. It too was very pretty.

If you ever find yourself in Carovigno, I suggest checking out the castle.
