The Zürich City Triathlon is held in downtown Zürich every June. This year (2026), I participated in and completed the Sprint distance category – 750 m swim, 20 k bike, and 5 k run. The swim takes place in lake Zürich and the bike and run are along the shore, so a very flat course. This was my first time doing a triathlon and it was a really good experience even though we had very hot weather (at least the lake was warm for the swim.)
Thank you to the friend who convincing me to sign up, the friends who cheered me on, my husband for being the support staff and carrying my stuff, and especially, to the friend who helped me with the swim training. Before training for this race, my swimming could be best be described as forward progress, not drowning – good enough to get me across the lake but not good for a race. Now I know the basics of front crawl and am able to swim well enough to complete a race.
Not only did I finish, I beat the time I had estimated for myself. Very happy with that! I even rang the PR bell for myself!

Will I do the Triathlon again next year? Will I do the Olympic distance? I don’t know. I’m still recovering as I write this post. But, I really enjoyed the training for the Sprint distance. Loved the variety of bike, swim and run and the distances were not overwhelming. And I was happy with the race organization. They provided both a race booklet and a race briefing beforehand to cover the logistics of the course and transitions and they provided plenty of water and sport drinks along the course. So, I am definitely considering this for next year!
