Running the Greifenseelauf in Uster

Just for fun, I ran the 10k distance in the Greifenseelauf. This is a pretty big race event held every September in Uster with several race distances throughout the day – half-marathon, 10 k, 5.5 k, and kids 1.5 k and 1.2 k distances.

As recommended, we took the train to the race (about a 25 min ride from Zürich HB). Although my race wasn’t until 13:44, we went a bit early to watch a friend of mine finish running the half-marathon. After cheering her finish, I still had a bit of time til my race. Good thing too, as it took us a while to pick up my race shirt and then find the 10 k start point. It was a 15 minute or so walk from the race end point near the train station. But, I got to the start in plenty of time and I was ready to go.

It was a pretty hot day and the 10 k start time wasn’t until the afternoon. It’s a good course with some up and down to it, but the heat was brutal. I was really happy to finish.

Will I run in the Greifenseelauf again next year? I don’t think so. I only do two or so races a year and there are a few other races in September/October that I’d like to try. I will post them here if I do. Still, if you are looking for an autumn race to do near Zürich, the Greifenseelauf is a fun one to do!
