Every year in April, Ochsner Sport hosts the Zürich Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10 k races in downtown Zürich. Two years ago, my husband and I ran the 10 k and this year we ran the half-marathon. This race attracts thousands of runners each year and has a lively atmosphere with spectators cheering all along the route. Note: It also shuts down several of the streets in and around Zürich, and changes tram and bus schedules, so even if you aren’t interested in this event, knowing when it is could affect your plans. In 2026, the event happens on April 12th.
For my first half-marathon this was a great race. The course is fairly flat. And, with all the spectators offering encouragement, high-fives, ringing bells, and playing music along the way, it was a really fun experience. I was really surprised by how much tapping a cardboard Super Mario power up icon actually helped to keep me motivated and running!
I am a slow runner but I finished the half-marathon and for me that was good enough. I very much deserved my finishers medal.

Will I run the half-marathon again next year? I don’t know. I’m still recovering as I write this post. If I do, I will need to sign up by September. One, because I need to create and follow a good training plan, and two, the race sells out quickly!
