We wrapped up our time in Massachusetts on our USA trip with a hike on two trails, the Charcoal Trail (3.2 km, ascent/descent 160 m) and the Burbank Trail (5.5 km, ascent/descent 210 m, in the Yukon Ridge reserve near Lenox.

The Shaker Loop trail is 10.5 km long with 355 m ascent and descent. This loop took us through the Pittsfield State Forest reserve and past some historical points of interest for the Shaker religious order.

While taking a trip back to the US to visit family and friends, we went out for a short loop hike at Mount Tom State Reservation in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The trail we did was the Goat Peak View loop trail, a lovely forest hike up to an observation tower with 360 degree views.

The ZBB Trail Suggestion #12 is one of the long trail suggestions found on the Zugerberg Bahn (ZBB) website. This 13 km trail has about 208m ascent and 550 m descent. It starts at Zugerberg, Bergstation and ends at the Baar train station.

The Creux du Van Loop Trail is a 14 km hike with approximately 780 m of ascent and decent. This moderately challenging trail leads up to the Creux du Van, a large semi-circular rock cliff. The Creux du Van is a completely natural formation shaped solely by ice, erosion, and rain, and an impressive sight.

The Tüfelschilen–Schauenberg Trail (16 km, 640 m ascent and descent ) goes from Kollbrunn to Elgg passing through a mossy abandoned quarry, ancient guardhouse ruins, and a pretty ravine with a babbling brook and little waterfalls.

The Lägern Ridge Trail (14 km, approximately 583 m ascent and descent ) goes from Dielsdorf to Baden and along the way traverses an exposed narrow rocky ridge.

For a winter hike with great views, the Engelstock Loop Trail is an excellent choice. At 5k with 148 m of ascent and descent and with several restaurants along the way to choose from, we found this loop made for a very relaxing day out. And, it is also a fantastic hike in the summer!

The powerful Rhine Falls are an easy and fun day trip from Zürich. I recently went there with my in-laws for a short winter hike.

Stage 14 of the Trans Swiss trail is 13 km and goes from Eggiwil to Schangnau. With 800 m of ascent and 600 m of descent, it is a solid hike.

Stage 13 of the Trans Swiss trail is 12 km and goes from Langnau i.E. to Eggiwil. With 600 m of ascent and 540 m of descent, it is a solid hike.
