Visiting the Foundation Beyeler Art Museum in Riehen/Basel

The Foundation Beyeler is a modern and contemporary art museum located in Riehen near Basel. Founded by Ernst and Hildy Beyeler, this museum is home to an impressive art collection (Picasso, Matisse, Klee, etc.) and hosts some truly extraordinary temporary exhibitions. We visited this museum for the Yayoi Kusuma retrospective and installation held 2025 October 12 – 2026 January 25. This well curated exhibition made me want to keep an eye on this museum for the future. It truly was worth a visit.

The Tour

We visited this museum for the Yayoi Kusuma retrospective and installation held 2025 October 12 – 2026 January 25, so this is what we saw. Check the current exhibitions before you go to see what is on display for your visit.

Yayoi Kusama is a contemporary Japaneses artist with a long and influential career. This exhibition was organized in close collaboration with the artist and her studio and offered a retrospective of her more than 70 year career. Here were some of my favorites:

And here are pictures of me with one of her famous pumpkins and me in one of her mirror room installations.

I really enjoyed this museum and I am going to keep an eye on upcoming exhibitions. Hopefully the future holds something as intriguing and exciting as this show.
